Nintendo Switch 2 Review 2026: Best Games, Features, and Is It Worth Buying? – TryOneRead
The Nintendo Switch 2 is here. After years of rumors, leaks, and anticipation, Nintendo finally released its next-generation console in March 2026. TryOneRead has been testing the Switch 2 for two months. Here is our full review.
📱 Hardware: Bigger, Better, Faster
The Switch 2 features an 8-inch OLED screen – significantly larger than the original Switch's 6.2-inch display. The resolution remains 1080p in handheld mode, but the colors are more vibrant, and the bezels are much thinner. The console is slightly heavier but feels more premium. The kickstand is now a full-width adjustable stand, similar to the Switch OLED.
Under the hood, the Switch 2 uses a custom Nvidia Tegra T239 chip. Performance is roughly equivalent to a PlayStation 4 Pro in docked mode. Games load faster, run smoother, and support DLSS upscaling. The fan is quieter than the original Switch, even during demanding games like Zelda.
🎮 Joy-Cons: Magnetic and Drift-Free
Nintendo finally addressed the Joy-Con drift problem. The new Joy-Cons attach magnetically – no more plastic rails. The connection is solid. There is no wobble. The analog sticks use Hall effect sensors, which are theoretically immune to drift. Early reports confirm that even after heavy use, the sticks are holding up.
The new "C" button on the right Joy-Con opens a chat menu for online play. It is a small addition, but it signals Nintendo's increased focus on online functionality. The shoulder buttons are larger and more comfortable. The overall feel is closer to a traditional controller.
🎮 Best Switch 2 Games to Play Right Now
The launch lineup is strong. Here are the must-play titles:
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Hyrule – A brand new open-world Zelda game. Not a sequel to Breath of the Wild. A fresh story with new mechanics. 10/10.
- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – After years of delays, Metroid Prime 4 is finally here. It is stunning. 9.5/10.
- Mario Kart X – Double dash returns. New tracks. 24-player online races. 9/10.
- Pokemon Legends: Unova – Open-world Pokemon set in ancient Unova. 8.5/10.
- Super Mario Odyssey 2 – More kingdoms. More captures. More fun. 9/10.
🔋 Battery Life
Battery life depends on the game. In less demanding games (indies, 2D platformers), the Switch 2 lasts 6 to 8 hours. In demanding games (Zelda, Metroid), it lasts 3 to 5 hours. That is comparable to the original Switch OLED. The USB-C port now supports faster charging – 0 to 50 percent in 30 minutes. A full charge takes about 2 hours.
💰 Is It Worth Buying?
The Switch 2 costs $399 for the base model and $449 for the model with a better kickstand and more internal storage. That is $100 more than the original Switch OLED launch price. Is it worth it? If you own a Switch and play it regularly, yes. The performance improvements alone justify the upgrade. If you rarely play your Switch, stick with what you have. The games are still great on the original hardware – just slower and less pretty.
For new buyers, the Switch 2 is the obvious choice. The original Switch is eight years old. The technology is dated. The Switch 2 will be supported for at least another five years.
